I recently moved to LA and in the spirit of pursuing my dreams I have decided that I would like a place to display some of my amateur work.
Along with some digital videos, most of what is here is analog. I like to shoot on film for the same reason that I like sending postcards. When you write a postcard, whether from a trendy cafe or a petrol station in West Texas, something is transferred. As you write, your hand skirts over the card and your ballpoint pen imprints the paper. And then, its shuffled, mixed in with other post, then comes before an unsuspecting postman or a robot who will sort it. Domestic? international? North? South? East? West? Air? Ship? Once it has traveled on a plane, lorry, van, bicycle or a bottle it will end up in the hands of your mother, brother, lover or friend. Physical. Real. Awesome.
A similar thing happens in film photography. The light that creates the photograph, is like a postcard that has traveled through tunnels, across rivers and over seas into the hands of a sweaty postman and finally into yours. It's magic. It's real.
